Tonjala Eaton is a native of Birmingham, AL and
currently resides in Lansing, MI, where she works as an academic advisor at
Lansing Community College (LCC). Ms. Eaton has over 10 years of experience in
the fields of experiential and higher education. During the early years of her
career, she worked as an administrative assistant at Miles College in
Birmingham, AL after earning a Bachelor of Arts in International Business and
Spanish from Dillard University in New Orleans. While working at Miles College,
she developed a strong desire to help students reach their full potential. As a
result of this pivotal experience, Ms. Eaton began to refocus her career goals
to prepare herself for a career in higher education.
Therefore, she completed the Master of Arts degree in Higher, Adult and Lifelong Education (HALE) at Michigan State University, where her research focused on exploring career development models and diversity programs in higher education. As an academic advisor, she helps students from a variety of backgrounds including traditional students that are pursuing undergraduate degrees to adults in transition that may be recovering from a significant loss in employment or changing family dynamics. She believes her role empowers individuals to reach their goals.
Ms. Eaton is most excited about her work as the founder of the Graduate College Debt Free With Me Campaign which is focused on increasing financial literacy among college students and their parents. This program is positioned to help students finance their education and improve money management skills.
She is also a member of the Institute for International Public Policy (IIPP) and Coro Fellows Program in Public Affairs.
